HUMANxNATURE is an anthology of writers reaching out from beyond the confines of their disciplines to engage the natural world. This anthology of essays is a recognition of the ways the world shapes us—and how increasingly, we leave our own inescapable print on the world. As our relationship to the nature world changes, we ask writers to explore what nature gives to us, and what we might owe in return.

We started with a conversation about the work we'd like to read. We ended up with a book—our first issue!

We funded our first issue through a Kickstarter campaign in August 2018, printed in November, and fulfilled orders the rest of the year. A portion of our proceeds went toward reimbursing the editorial staff for upfront costs, as well as paying our writers. The bulk of our funds went to printing costs, reward production, and shipping fees for the project. We also made a donation to the local organization SEED, ROOT + BLOOM, which supports BIPoc nature and herbal education in Boston.

After achieving those goals, we set up an e-shop to sell additional copies of the anthology and merchandise. All our profits from there went toward our second issue, currently in production.
